Erling Haaland has praised Borussia Dortmund for how they defended against Manchester City, but was keen to point out that they still couldn’t find a way to stop him.
Man City struggled to break down the Bundesliga side as they eventually won the UEFA Champions League 2-1 on Wednesday and didn’t have a single shot on target until John Stones’ 80th-minute effort.
That shot on goal was also their first goal and their second was the winner, with Haaland leading his side to victory.
The Norwegian praised the way his former team played and defended, but reminded that it was not enough to stop him.
When told in an interview with BT Sport that BVB “clearly know how to stop you”, Haaland replied: “They didn’t stop me, I scored a goal!
“But yes, they played well and they were good and I was sure they were going to watch me the whole game because they know me very well.
“Dortmund were really good today and three points are important in the end.
Haaland’s goal was one of the best he has scored, the forward lifting his foot extremely high to turn in Joao Cancelo’s stunning cross.
The first team wasn’t bad either, with Stones shooting from outside, but Haaland joked that his was the better of the two.
“Yeah, two wonderful goals today. I think mine was a bit better, to be honest,” he added.
The 22-year-old is now just one goal short of Luis Suarez in the Champions League and just four short of Wayne Rooney.
