Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed suggestions he is on the cusp of sealing a return to Portuguese side Sporting CP.

Ronaldo has asked current employers Manchester United to listen to offers for him this summer amid fears the Red Devils are not ready to challenge for trophies next season, with a number of sides expected to move for the 37-year-old.

Sporting, Ronaldo’s former team, is one of those who have been linked with the striker and social media has recently gone into overdrive after a photo emerged of what is believed to be Ronaldo’s car at Sporting’s Jose Alvalade Stadium.

However, according to the man himself, the story is not true. On an Instagram post about the alleged presence of his car at Sporting’s stadium, Ronaldo simply wrote: “Fake.”

Ronaldo missed United’s pre-season tour this summer for “personal reasons” and missed the chance to face former team-mate Nani, who opted for Melbourne Victory on Friday as Erik ten Haga’s side roared to a 4-1 victory. .

After the match, Nani admitted that Ronaldo was avoiding trying to discuss a possible transfer.

“I hope he [stays at United],” said Nani. “He is an important player and a player who always makes a difference. I hope he is in a good mood to help the club.”

“I tried to talk to him but he doesn’t pick up the phone when he’s on holiday. He said, ‘I’m so busy right now, we’ll talk soon’.”
