Barcelona have announced the signing of Andreas Christensen on a free transfer from Chelsea. The defender has moved to Camp Nou after the end of his contract with Chelsea at the end of June.
Christensen overseas from Denmark has agreed to a four-year contract that includes a purchase agreement for 500 million euros.
Christensen had been linked with Barca for some time after it became apparent that he would not extend his stay in west London.
Barca president Joan Laporta confirmed on Saturday that Christensen’s agreement would be officially finalized and announced this week.
He is the second player in Barca to sign a transfer window, and Franck Kessie from Serie A champions Milan – who was also sold for free – has been confirmed on Monday.
Christensen joined Chelsea from Brondby back in 2012 and made his professional debut two years later, but only after a two-year loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach when his Blues career began.
He has played 167 games in all competitions, including 26 last season, scoring a total of four goals.
Having won the Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in his Stamford Bridge career, Chelsea have won 92 games for Christensen.
With Christensen and Kessie on board, Barca are focused on completing the move of Leeds United midfielder Raphinha.
Chelsea have reportedly agreed a fee for the Brazilian midfielder Leeds, but Laporta has insisted Raphinha has expressed an interest in joining Barca, hoping to sign a contract despite their financial problems.
Barça are also in talks with Ousmane Dembele over a new contract, with French winger now a free agent, while Manchester United are interested in Blaugrana midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
