Sporting CP confident of Cristiano Ronaldo return after making contact

Nineteen years after leaving Sporting Clube de Portugal for Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo could now make a move in the opposite direction.

The 37-year-old striker scored 24 goals last season but now finds himself part of Erik ten Hag’s reconstruction.

Over time, the Portuguese player wants to take full advantage of any silverware opportunity and that could see him move on.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Sporting believes they can convince Ronaldo to return to the club.

Ronaldo would not be the first player to return to the club in recent years, and it looks like a strategy followed by the Portuguese team.

“Yes, without a doubt, I would like Ronaldo to finish his career here, at home,” said Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho.

“He is very supportive and it would be great if he could finish his career here.

“He is the ambassador of the world, he always speaks well of us and how much he loves us.

“We are making a lot of effort to get some players back on the team. We have already done that with Nani [who canceled the 2014-15 loan deal with Sporting] and we will see that many times.”

It could be the culmination of Ronaldo’s 20-year career in Europe.
