Manchester City activated the Norway striker’s release clause and the player will join on July 1 for a total of £85.5m including agents fees and other add-ons; Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said the Haaland deal will “set new levels” in the transfer market
Manchester City have paid the 21-year-old’s release clause and expects to pay £85.5m in total when agent fees, signing bonus and other costs are taken into account.
With the Norwegian holiday over now, Haaland has moved to Manchester to sign a five-year contract.
“This is a day of pride for me and my family,” he said. “I have been watching City and have enjoyed doing so for the past season. You can’t help but commend their style of play, it’s fun and they create a lot of opportunities, which is perfect for a player like me.
“There are a lot of world-class players in the team and Pep is one of the greatest managers who has ever lived, so I believe I am in the right place to achieve my ambitions.
“I want to score goals, win trophies and develop as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. This is a good step for me and I can’t wait to start before the season. ”
Soccer director Txiki Begiristain added: “We have been monitoring Erling for many years, so we are happy to bring him here to Manchester City.
“He has great talent and has been one of the best strikers in Europe over the last few seasons. His goal-scoring record is unique and his performances at Borussia Dortmund, especially in the Champions League, have proven that he can excel at a very high level.
“Erling has everything we need in a striker and we are sure he will stand out in the team and in this program.
“Growing up is wonderful, but you are only 21 years old. His best years are waiting for him and we are sure he can get better working with Pep.
“This is a very exciting signing for our team, and I’m sure our fans will be happy to see Erling do well for the team.”
