Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Angel Di Maria will leave the club at the end of his contract. Di Maria joined PSG from Manchester United in 2015 and has continued to enjoy a good location in the French capital.
The former Real Madrid winger has won five Ligue 1 titles, enjoyed multiple Coupe de France victories, and collected four Coupe de la Ligue trophies.
He was unable to help PSG win the UEFA Champions League, despite earning a second trophy in 2019-2020.
Di Maria, who beat Montpellier 4-0 last week, scored 40 goals in his first season at PSG, scoring 15 and providing 25 assistants.
In the 2021 Coupe de France final, his passing of Kylian Mbappe’s goal made Di Maria the most influential player in PSG history (104).
He has scored 71 goals in Ligue 1 since his 2015 debut, 27 more than any other PSG player at the time, and created 482 chances – far from Neymar’s 267th-placed second. His 55 goals put him in fourth place, behind. Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Mbappe.
The arrival of Lionel Messi last year limited Di Maria’s minutes, and the Argentine has played 30 times in all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign and the 21st in those games.
On Friday, just before PSG’s final game of the season against Metz, Di Maria posted a photo of the team on his official Instagram account with the message: “Gracias. Merci.”
“Certainly Angel Di Maria has shaped the history of the team,” said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
“He will be remembered by the fans as a good player, who has shown unwavering determination to protect our colors.
“I invite the whole Paris Saint-Germain family to gather [Saturday] at the Parc des Princes to give him the appropriate hat.”
Reports indicate that Juventus have planned to track down Di Maria, who turned 34 in February.
