Luis Suarez’s spell at Atletico Madrid ends. After arriving in the capital from Barcelona last season, he promoted Los Rojiblancos to their second league title under Diego Simeone, seven years after the first.
This season is not yet the season – his 13 goals are the lowest number since arriving in Europe, but the same can be said for Atletico Madrid.
Ahead of Atletti’s last home game of the season, manager Diego Simeone not only confirmed Luis Suarez would leave but that it had been agreed for a long time, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
“I had an interview with Luis Suarez in November, midway through. A long, strong, honest conversation, in which both sides can talk about what they have seen before and now and what is needed to compete with what is needed for them. ”
“From that discussion until today, everyone in his position has been respectful of what we have discussed and that this is not always the case. For that reason, I thank Luis Suarez, because last season he was very good and he is still our top scorer. He will play tomorrow with people who behave like Luis, I always say ‘chapeau’. ”
Diego Simeone and Luis Suarez always looked like a cast in heaven as a character and it did. The Uruguay international will leave Wanda Metropolitano with his head held high after winning a historic league last year.
Atletico Madrid fans have asked the club to give Luis Suarez a plaque outside the stadium, although he is traditionally unworthy of respect.
