Manchester City had to work hard on the final day of the season, but won the Premier League title by beating Aston Villa 3-2.
The title race has dropped dramatically, with Manchester City needing to match Liverpool’s result against the Wolves to win their fourth league title under Pep Guardiola.
However, Matty Cash’s goal in the middle of the first half at the Etihad Stadium made Aston Villa, led by Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard, go ahead into the break.
Former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho then beat Villa 2-0 but – as they did against QPR to win their first Premier League title in 10 years – Manchester City came back in a dramatic way.
Ilkay Gundogan was a hero. The incumbent pulled City into it and, after Rodri restored the balance, scored from close range to end a spectacular battle.
It was necessary, when Liverpool beat the Wolves 3-1, but City have now won their sixth Premier League title, as well as their fourth in five seasons.
