Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored two goals in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Celta Vigo in the men’s 10-man Celta Vigo in a game overshadowed by Barcelona Defender Ronald Araujo leaving the field in an ambulance.
Araujo collided head-on with Gavi just an hour later at the Camp Nou and, after appearing to escape injury, fell to the ground before medical attention.
The incident happened shortly after Iago Aspas hit to give Celta hope after opening Memphis Depay with a few goals from Aubameyang or half.
But Barca loan shark Jeison Murillo’s red card eventually left the visitors, who also scored three points in a 3-3 draw, much to be done in Tuesday’s LaLiga tournament.
Ousmane Dembele showed remarkable ingenuity in taking the ball past two of his rivals and sending it back so that Depay could sweep Matias Dituro, who got his hand on the shot but could not pull it out.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, recovering from an illness that sidelined him last weekend, left out Thiago Galhardo and denied the same player a head injury shortly afterward.
Barca doubled their advantage before the break with Aubameyang, who came in the lower right corner after Nestor Araujo failed to deal with Depay’s cross from the box.
Aubameyang used another opportunity for Dembele’s fine play three minutes after the break by sweeping Barca’s third home.
A bad ground from Ter Stegen to Araujo allowed Galhardo to jump and play for Aspas, but Celta’s pressure was halted when the last man Murillo fouled Depay and was sent off.
Barcelona saw Araujo come off the bench with a head injury shortly afterward and scored the fourth goal for substitute Riqui Puig who was sent off, but they had no problem seeing the win, despite an extra 11 minutes.
