Antonio Conte has confirmed that Tottenham were eyeing a move for January’s Luis Diaz, only for Liverpool to speed up the pursuit of the defender and sign him.
Diaz was the fastest player in the Premier League, cemented his place in the Reds’ first team, and netted five times in 21 games in all competitions.
Liverpool were not the only team to monitor the Colombian midfielder before moving to Anfield, with Ralf Rangnick admitting he would be a Man Utd player – but the board has blocked him.
Diaz was also on Spurs’ radar, as Conte made it clear to his club that he could face the 25-year-old this weekend.
“We knew he [Diaz] was a great player. I think [football director Fabio] Paratici tried to see if it was possible to sign him, but in the same way, we signed [Dejan] Kulusevski and saw the capacity of this player. To join our team, like Rodrigo Bentancur,” he said.
“For us these two signed players were very important because the team has improved.
“If there is an important player it is important that you try to sign him because you know that a good player will improve your team and your team level. mid-level players. ”
Tottenham are in dire need of an unexpected result against Liverpool on Saturday night, as they have drawn a draw with Brentford and Brighton recently.
These results have given Arsenal a good chance in the top four, as the Gunners currently sit two points ahead of their rivals north of London with just four games to go.
