Vinicius Junior backed teammate Karim Benzema to win the Ballon d’Or following another fine UEFA Champions League match.

Benzema was also in excellent form for Real Madrid in their 4-3 win over Manchester City in the first leg of the semi-final between the two of them, hitting an amazing volley in the first half and a bold Panenka penalty in the second.

Speaking after the game – where he also scored an amazing goal – Vinicius expressed his hope that Benzema would win the Ballon d’Or this year.

“There are no words to describe the way Benzema plays. He deserves the Ballon d’Or,” he said.

“I hope my brother Benzema will eventually win La Liga, the Champions League, and the Ballon d’Or.”

The Brazilian player also elaborated on the match, saying he was not happy with the result and that Los Blancos needed to improve “everywhere” before the second leg next week.

“I can’t and I won’t be happy with the defeat. We have to improve in all areas in the 2nd leg,” he added.

“The Bernabeu fans have played a big role in our comeback and the next leg will not be different. When we face City we have to suffer and stay calm.”
