Real Madrid came back from 2-0 down and beat Sevilla 3-2 with Karim Benzema winning in the stand-up step closer to taking the title.
Sevilla looks to be breathing down their neck in the LaLiga title race, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side produced a brutal game in the second half to make a real statement.
Perhaps facing a Champions League hangover, Madrid were lazy and found themselves following goals from Ivan Rakitic and Erik Lamela, both created by defensive defenses.
But the playing pattern turned out wonderfully in his head after the break, with Rodrygo pulling back his replacement Nacho Fernandez to equalize, before the returning king Benzema shut down the transition.
A promising start from Sevilla brought a well-opened goal in the 21st minute, as Rakitic saw his free-kick fly straight into Madrid’s weak wall into the net.
Sevilla doubled the lead again four minutes later, with Lamela hitting the empty net after Jesus Corona came in behind Eder Militao and stepped up the corner before Thibaut Courtois jumped.
Eduardo Camavinga somehow escaped the second suspension due to what appeared to be an error after Anthony Martial, who had to be ruled out due to injury, and the Madrid midfielder was replaced by Rodrygo, who ruled immediately when he opened the scoring. Dani Carvajal’s low cross to narrow the gap.
Vinicius thought he had regained his balance in the 16-minute strike, but it was over for handball – referee Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez clung to him after consultation with VAR.
But Madrid weren’t finished yet, as Nacho beat Carvajal’s twist to later assemble talisman Benzema to secure the winner, showing great composure before taking his place after Rodrygo’s fine performance.
