Luka Modric is set to sign a new contract with Real Madrid, ending speculation over whether he will leave the Bernabeu this summer.

The Croatian midfielder signed for Real for one year last year but the contract for next season has not yet been reached despite several weeks of negotiations between the player’s representatives and the club.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that an agreement has been reached after Modric has considered his options, with an official announcement to follow.

The 36-year-old Modric is one of the most decorated players in the last decade, having won the UEFA Champions League four times and two La Liga titles as well as the Copa del Rey and Real. He has closed out 450 games for the team and now looks set to pass that point with his new contract.

Modric also won the popular Ballon d’Or in 2018 after helping to lead a disgruntled Croatia to the first appearance of the World Cup finals, and he continues to work at a very high level despite being on the road to his career.

He has moved to the center of Real this season with Casemiro and Toni Kroos, showing his passing record and high level of resilience, and without a disastrous end to the season he will take his third La Liga title – after Carlo Ancelotti’s side lost. from Sevilla, Real Betis and Barcelona in the final race for the title.

Manager Ancelotti previously said Modric would end his career in the Spanish capital who joined Tottenham a decade ago.
