Pedri is one of the best players in world football, said Barcelona teammate Ferran Torres. Barca midfielder Pedri is enjoying another good season after his exit campaign at Camp Nou in 2020-21.
Although at the start of his season he was hampered by injuries, Pedri was seen as a key figure as Xavi revived Barca since taking over from Ronald Koeman.
Missing the last three months of 2021, Pedri of 2022 has been the best so far and has scored the best goal against Sevilla in a 1-0 LaLiga victory on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Spanish midfielder also netted in the Galatasaray net to help Barca advance to the Europa League quarterfinals, followed by Eintracht Frankfurt.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s game in Germany, Torres said it was a “luxury” to play around with such talent.
“It doesn’t scare us,” Torres told a news conference when asked about Pedri’s form.
“Seeing him every day is a luxury, he has high quality, and the way he treats, with humility.”
Torres also spoke highly of coach Xavi, his undefeated team in 13 games in all competitions and now lies in second place in LaLiga.
“Xavi has conveyed his confidence from day one. I am in good shape and helping the team,” added the former Manchester City striker.
Barca faces Frankfurt for the first time in their history. The Bundesliga team has never lost at home to a major European tournament in the quarter-finals and beyond (P16 W12 D4 L0) – these are the most similar games any team has ever played in a major European tournament without a defeat.
And Torres stressed that overconfidence will not be a problem.
“The coach makes it clear to us that we have to go from game to game because if you lose tomorrow no one will remember the momentum, humility, hard work and longing to win,” he said.
“It is a first step towards the Europa League and we will do our best to achieve it.”
