Pedri will miss the entire 2021/22 season after injuring his left biceps femoris in a game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.
The Barcelona midfielder was due to leave during the break at the Camp Nou and Barcelona released a statement on Friday morning.
“Friday morning’s examination revealed that Pedri had ruptured his female muscle,” the group said.
“It means he will not be able to be appointed until he recovers from the injury.”
The club have not yet set a deadline for the 21-year-old’s injury, but it looks like he will be out of action for a month. With Barcelona’s season ending on the weekend of May 22, it is possible that his season is over.
With Barcelona likely to have nothing to play for at the time, Xavi Hernandez will not want to put him at risk due to the serious injury he suffered in the first half of the season.
Pedri was absent for more than two months at the end of 2021 and returned a long-awaited return in January, before enjoying the second half of the season.
