The Ukrainian national team has requested that their World Cup qualifier against Scotland be postponed.

They will meet on March 24 as part of the final four groups that include Wales and Austria, with one venue at the Qatar 2022 World Cup to be held. The European qualifiers were to see Ukraine travel to Glasgow to play in Hampden Park.

“Football is useless in the event of a dispute,” the statement said after a filing with FIFA.

It could put a spanner in the role of FIFA, given that the World Cup qualifiers are scheduled for April 1, before the tournament kicks off on November 21.

June 14 will be the latest possible qualifying day for Qatar 2022, as 32 teams usually have to attend FIFA workshops and this happens 100 days before the start of the World Cup.
