Joan Laporta would like to sign Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe – but only if they want to join Barcelona and present the relevant financial requirements.
Both Haaland and Mbappe could leave at the end of the season, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs putting themselves in line to sign the best players of their generation.
Haaland is thought to have a 75 million euro transfer clause in Borussia Dortmund, and Mbappe’s Paris Saint-Germain contract will expire – even if Ligue 1 giants try to agree to a renewal.
So happy couples represent a cheap signature on their face, but both may require significant costs depending on the salaries and fees of the agents.
For that reason, Barca president Laporta is struggling to figure out how to get to Camp Nou.
“Haaland or Mbappe? If I have to choose, I will stick to what I have clearly stated,” Laporta told RAC1. “What makes it clear is that they want to play for Barca, he is the one who wants to come here.
“So far neither of these two have come to terms with me, and if they have a disagreement it will be difficult.
“What I have pointed out is the conditions regarding these two agreements. We will not agree to use those figures, however.”
Barcelona’s financial woes led to Lionel Messi ‘s exit from PSG last year, with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner being sacked by Laporta.
