Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has urged fans to ‘enjoy’ Lionel Messi during his playing career, following the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner announcing his retirement from the World Cup.

Messi has been playing for Argentina for 160 years and ended up waiting a long time to win an international trophy last year and a Copa America fame – he had announced he would retire in 2016 after losing the 2016 Copa America final but withdrew the decision.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar in November will be the fifth. Messi will be 35 years old by then and there is a chance to mark the end of international work altogether.

“After the World Cup, I have to rethink many things, depending on whether it goes well or bad. Let’s hope it goes the best way, ”Messi said on Friday following their win over Venezuela.

“I’ve been happy here for a long time before I won the Copa America. People show me that they love me and thank me. Everything goes smoothly, it’s easy to get in and out of court. ”

Speaking ahead of Argentina’s final World Cup qualifier against Ecuador – their place in Qatar has been secured for a long time – Scaloni suggested it was natural for players to consider things at the end of each round of the tournament.

“After playing in the World Cup everyone checks. I’m not in the players’ heads to know what they think, ”he said.

“In any case, you have to enjoy it. You do not have to think about the future, enjoy their wonderful gift. Sometimes, because of that life, a person gets old and I think that is normal.

“But why not think of the spectacle here and now? Why not enjoy it now? It doesn’t help to think about what will happen after the World Cup. ”
