Ilkay Gundogan has admitted Erling Haaland would improve every top team in world football as Manchester City continues to be linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker.
Haaland is one of the best players in the world following his good performance in the Bundesliga and is expected to go on to do great things in the summer.
City are in a good position to bring the Norwegian midfielder to the summer, despite being heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, who are currently rebuilding under Xavi following Ronald Koeman’s frustration at the Camp Nou.
Pep Guardiola’s side have not played with a striker since Sergio Aguero’s arrival, but Gundogan said a thoughtful relationship between Haaland and City would work.
He said: “We have been playing with a great striker for a long time.
“I think Haaland and Guardiola will be working for Manchester City. Haaland has the quality of all the top teams.”
City usually play with a midfielder ahead of their front line, with the likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva playing there for points this season. Haaland is a leading striker who has scored 80 goals in 82 games in Dortmund, despite having a straightforward style compared to City’s construction.
Guardiola often avoids questions about City’s interest in Haaland, recently saying: “Right now, listen, it’s impossible for me to talk about someone who’s not here. He’s a Dortmund player and we have an amazing race ahead of us.”
