The 2022 Champions League final will be in Paris after UEFA stripped St Petersburg of the right to play.

The decision came after a European football governing body condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and called an emergency meeting of the executive council to discuss the situation.

It is understood that UEFA has agreed to cancel the final on Thursday, the first day of Russia’s military offensive in neighboring Ukraine, on Friday. The announcement was delayed while choosing a suitable new location.

The match will now take place at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis for the first time at 20:00 GMT (21:00 CET) on May 28.
