The Gabon striker has had his heart set on a move to Barcelona and even landed in the city on Monday morning with a view to completing a late loan move to Camp Nou – only for both Barça and Arsenal to insist they had not reached an agreement and his arrival in Catalonia was premature.
But Laporta is keen to get a deal over the line and confirmed to Mundo Deportivo that he expects Aubameyang to join late on Monday evening, while it’s being reported in England that it will be for free on a permanent transfer.
Barcelona have already completed the permanent signing of winger Ferran Torres from Manchester City this window, as well as sealing an initial loan for Wolves star Adama Traore over the weekend.
Head coach Xavi has been keen to add to his squad to help Barça’s wavering top-four bid.
