After reports say Barcelona were looking at Bosman’s deals with Chelsea duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen, it appears the Catalans are likely to add another Blues star to their summer shopping list.
According to transfer experts Dean Jones, the Blaugrana have also set their sights on the free transfer of Azpilicueta swoop with Christensen’s defensive partner, Antonio Rudiger.
It is expected that there will be a major change in defense at the Camp Nou next season with Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet likely to be sacked, with Gerard Pique believed to be considering retirement.
Such a situation could leave Xavi Hernandez and Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia, and Oscar Mingueza as the only options, and the last two are not the same. Therefore, at least two defenders are likely to enter the fold in the summer.
Cesar Azpilicueta’s move is believed to have been completed. The 32-year-old could add a lot to the team with his experience and flexibility and could follow Dani Alves right back, at least for a short time.
Christensen’s contract is also considered to be of the highest standard. This Danish player is a top defender who can fit in with the style of play at Camp Nou. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him, which could make him a long-term wise signing.
As for Rudiger, the German international contract is set to expire as the two Chelsea stars mentioned above. He has reportedly rejected the European champions’ latest proposal for an extension, which has left the door open.
Barcelona wants to take advantage of that opportunity, which is understandable considering he is considered one of the most in-back defenders in the game at the moment. However, his wage demands could throw a spanner in the job of Blaugrana.
But Matthew Alemany & co. able to launch a three-fold attack, would be a major coup d’état for Catalan bullies.
