Chelsea and Senegal Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been named the 2021 FIFA Best Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Mendy enjoyed a successful first season at Stamford Bridge following his arrival from Rennes in 2020, cemented his place as one of the world’s leading goalkeepers, and played a key role in their Champions League win-keeping a record for nine sheets on the Blues’ winning streak in Porto.
He handed out a tough tournament to Gianluigi Donnarumma – who helped Italy win Euro 2020 in the summer before moving to PSG – and Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich to win the trophy.
Mendy came to Chelsea and soon became their first goalkeeper, taking Kepa Arrizabalaga between Stamford Bridge.
He has played 70 games and has played a key role in Chelsea’s development in the European Championship under Thomas Tuchel.
