Real Madrid beat Barcelona in Supercopa de Espana Clasico five-goal thriller

Real Madrid emerged victorious in the semi-finals of the Supercopa de España against Barcelona in Riyadh which was decided by a winning goal after extra time.

Marco Asensio and Vinicius Jr both had chances to score in the first half, and it was the Brazilian who opened the scoring for Real Madrid in the middle of the first half with a top corner after being slipped in by Karim Benzema.

Luuk de Jong had a few chances to equalize Barca in quick succession, but both heads were kept by Thibaut Courtois. But 4 minutes before half-time, De Jong found the back of the net when Éder Militão tried to clear the Dutchman and went 1-1.

Barca started well in the second half, with Ousmane Dembele and Pedri both missing chances to make it 2-1.

Benzema came close to scoring Madrid 2-1 when he hit the post, but a few minutes later the Frenchman found the net as he deflected the ball home from goal.

But there would be another turning point as Barcelona’s replacement Ansu Fati equalized again in the 83rd minute with a header from Jordi Alba.

With a score of 90 minutes later, the game went into overtime.

And in the 98th minute, Los Blancos led for the third time, when Federico Valverde hit home at the end of the attack.

The winning goal was won, and Carlo Ancelotti’s side face off in the semi-finals on Thursday between Atlético Madrid and Athletic Club in the final on Sunday.
