Barcelona have confirmed that defender Eric Garcia will be sidelined for five weeks following a hamstring injury.

Tests carried out on first-team player Eric Garcia this morning confirmed a right hamstring injury. He is likely to be sidelined for around 5 weeks,” read an official statement from the club.

The 20-year-old former Manchester City defender has been forced off the pitch after reporting a hamstring injury in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Granada. Although he received medical treatment on the field, he was eventually released by Clement Lenglet throughout the match.

Garcia’s injury now represents a major challenge for Xavi who already does not have eight first-team players. These include the likes of Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto, Frenkie de Jong, and Pedri. While there is good news in the offensive zone, Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati are close to full recovery.

Barcelona travels to Saudi Arabia next week to face Real Madrid in the Spanish Supercup. Who will start with Gerard Pique in central defense?
