Lionel Messi’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain has seen many football fans criticize the move.

There is no one like Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender turned pundit, who was far from convinced of his departure, or that of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United.

During Norwich’s 3-0 win over Watford on Friday night, Carragher revealed that Messi had sent him a private message on Instagram after hearing what he had to say.

“I had a small player for Ronaldo at the start of the season. I didn’t think it was a good United signing. And I mentioned Messi’s example. I didn’t think Messi was the best signing for PSG,” said Carragher Sky Sports.

“I received a secret message on Instagram from this man himself. I will not show private messages, but he actually called me a donkey.

“He watches Monday Night Football, so I hope he also watches Friday Night Football because Lionel I absolutely love you. The greatest player – and compared to you, I was an ass, I accept that.

“You haven’t played well enough, or won the Copa America this summer. It’s not enough to leave my man out, Mo Salah.”

One might think that Messi would not lose sleep because Carragher did not include him in his fairy tale team of the year.
