Barcelona are interested in signing a Portuguese young striker Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.
Felix arrived in Atletico in the summer of 2019 on a $ 120 million contract but found it difficult to travel to the Spanish capital. The former Benfica player never matches the profile of Diego Simeone’s favorite players and has shown as the striker continues to struggle to get used to El Cholo’s methods.
The 22-year-old has played nearly 100 games for Los Rojiblancos, netting just 22 goals, and only three of them have entered the ongoing campaign. Simeone preferred the likes of Griezmann, Suarez, Matheus Cunha, and Angel Correa before Felix on the name. Also, the former is frustrated with his condition and wants to get out.
Barcelona may now be willing to give Felix a way out, with Ruben Uria claiming the Catalan giants are interested in the Portuguese striker.
Blaugrana’s pursuit of a new marquee attacker is no secret, with Erling Haaland on the road. However, a financial commitment to signing the Norwegian player from Borussia Dortmund could be a problem for the club.
So pointing out alternatives would be a wise decision, and Felix could have chosen to do so, with reports that Barça had been trying to sign him for three years. However, given his negative experiences while in Spain, there will be questions about his ability to break through the Camp Nou.
Moreover, signing the Portuguese international could be a delusion as Atletico Madrid intends to keep him. Journalist Javier Matellanas (h / t Cadena SER) said Simeone would be happy to approve the 22-year-old’s departure, but club boss Miguel Angel Gil Marin remains determined to stick to the former Benfica player.
