Barcelona have problems with the right-back for a long time. By 2020 the belief was that Catalan bullies would prioritize the signing of Sergino Dest in the future. Unfortunately for the American, however, the sheer number of injuries and misunderstandings means that her parents’ club does not want anything to do with her.
According to El Nacional, Barça is set to release him for 20 million euros this summer. The main club they are looking for is Chelsea in this winter window, which is in line with this calculation. Joan Laporta seems determined to accept the offer, but Dest is not ready to leave the club yet.
Dest arrived in Barcelona in the summer of 2020. He has shown a lot of promise, thanks to his ability at right-back and he has shown his ability to play left-back. The American player scored a goal and gave five La Liga assistants to the Catalans since his arrival; three of these sites in the campaign.
Barça feels that they may no longer need him. The Blaugrana are determined to find a different type of player. Despite the impressive statistical figures this season, one cannot say that he was smart most of the time.
He is young and probably given more time, however, Barcelona feels that this is the best opportunity to invest him. Chelsea wants to find someone to help with their injury problems, and Dest is right.
The American team feels like they should get a chance to play under Xavi first. The Spanish coach has Oscar Mingueza, Ronald Araujo, and Dani Alves as options in this position. None of this is a long-term solution, an American feeling he can be.
The Blaugrana are looking to replace Noussair Mazraoui. The Moroccan international has been a key player for Ajax this season. As the ending could have been, it was Dest’s own exit that gave him a chance to play, and he would be free this coming summer. Barça’s 20 million euros in US sales, they believe, could be invested in a striker again in the summer.
