A possible solution for Sergio Ramos at PSG: Perhaps in a back three

Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos last played his first game as a Paris Saint-Germain player at Parc des Princes, as Mauricio Pochettino brought him 20 minutes before PSG’s 2-0 win over Stade Brestois on Saturday.

The Spanish defender has recovered from his injuries, but has not been able to prove himself in the starting line-up and has forced the Argentine coach to drop Marquinhos or Presnel Kimpembe.

“There is a lot of competition,” Pochettino said after PSG’s 1-1 draw with Lyon. “I hope [Ramos] can play the next games.

“It has been decided to play Marquinhos and Kimpembe.”

However, French coach Christian Gourcuff has come up with another solution that could see Pochettino change his tactics and change his team’s structure.

“Does Ramos have the qualifications to play to protect three men?” Gourcuff told Le Parisien.

“When PSG play two full-backs, they need a fast player to give the team safety [when hitting] when they attack.

Ramos looks set to fully recover from his injury and is focused on PSG’s preparations ahead of their UEFA Champions League last-16 final against Real Madrid.

“The conclusion is an impossibility,” Ramos said after the draw.

“I would love to play for another team. You know the love I have for Real Madrid. Now I have to defend PSG and I will do my best to win. The team that bet me. I’m going to die for PSG.”
