Paris Saint-Germain yet to convince in France and Europe

Leo Messi And Kylian Mbappe

Despite being high on the Ligue 1 table, Paris Saint-Germain have not been able to impress with their performances in the home tournament so far this season.

PSG have scored 42 points so far in 2021/22 and are 11 points adrift of 2nd-placed Stade Rennais despite a 1-1 draw with fifth-placed Lens on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have beaten teams such as Troyes, Racing Strasbourg, Brest, Reims, Clermont, Lyon, Metz, Montpellier, Angers, Lille, Bordeaux, Nantes and Saint-Etienne, all sitting in sixth place.

However, it fights for strong teams like the Stade Rennais which they lost 2-0. They also drew 0-0 with third-placed Marseille and fourth-placed Nice.

Meanwhile, they reached the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 but failed to secure a place in Group A after losing 2-0 to leading Manchester City, drawing with Club Brugge of Belgium and RB Leipzig of Germany.

The level has risen sharply after the arrival of Lionel Messi in the summer and pressure is mounting on coach Pochettino who will be asked to meet expectations for this season.
