After months of negotiations, Barcelona and Ousmane Dembele appear to be close to reaching an agreement on a new French contract until at least 2024.
Although no agreement has been reached, talks have intensified in recent weeks and the Blaugrana want the agreement to be signed before the new year.
Contract delays have suggested the winger is set to leave the summer club for a free transfer, with many of Europe’s top clubs interested.
However, the arrival of Xavi Hernandez as a coach has seen Dembele’s better form emerge and he appears to have high hopes for his future with the famed midfielder.
Should he end up not signing a new contract, Barcelona will consider selling him as soon as possible in January to avoid losing him on a free summer transfer.
The interests of Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain are among those who are interested, and a healthy income and cash out of his salary would be a comfort to Blaugrana.
However, the indication, for now, is that Dembele and Barcelona are making good progress in the negotiations process.
