The Argentina no.9 Sergio Aguero announced his retirement on Wednesday afternoon and Barcelona president Joan Laporta has expressed support for the 33-year-old’s decision.
He managed to play just five games for Barcelona, scoring one goal in El Clasico, but a heart attack forced him to hang up his boots ahead of time.
“We wanted to see you more in Barcelona, but we think you made the right decision,” Laporta told the Argentine.
“We fully support you in this matter.
“In your career, you have become a natural scorer, known all over the world.
“You have gained a lot, not only because of your football but also because of your kindness and lifestyle.
“We would love to have you here at the beginning of your career. When you played for Atletico Madrid, you made Cules jealous.
“Now you can take all that you have gained and turn that into a new era in your life. We wish you all the best.”
