Xavi Hernandez was officially introduced by Barcelona as their new coach and one of the things he discussed at a press conference after the launch at Camp Nou was the condition of Ousmane Dembele’s contract.
The former Al Sadd coach intends to help Ousmane Dembele regain his form and believes the renewal of the French player’s contract is a priority for the club, as his player’s contract continues until next summer and no agreement has been reached between the two clubs regarding a possible extension.
“It is clear to me that Dembele should continue in Barcelona,” Xavi told a news conference.
“He could be the best player in the world in his position as a defender and we should help him achieve it. He is a footballer who can make a difference to Barcelona. His renewal is a priority.
“You have to help him so he doesn’t get hurt. We have to help him prevent injuries so that he doesn’t have any [injuries] and [do it] with work in the gym.”
During a press conference, Xavi also made it clear that he wanted his team to play with young players who could give Barcelona a wide range, as well as being able to create danger in front of goal against opponents and Dembele is a player with both of the above qualities.
