Barcelona are already busy trying to replace Dutchman Ronald Koeman, who fired the Dutchman after a 1-0 defeat by Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night.
Joan Laporta has chosen Xavi Hernandez as the man he wants at Camp Nou, and the president has been considering a midfielder since before Atletico Madrid’s defeat. Since then, there has been contacting with the coach to be heard.
Xavi has put his thumb on top, despite the challenges Barcelona are facing. He believes he can turn things around there, despite consecutive defeats against Real Madrid and Rayo last week.
The loss of Rayo started the storm. Laporta fired Koeman on a flight back to Barcelona and is now focused on everything for Xavi to return to the club.
Xavi wants to join, and the only obstacle now is that Barcelona must negotiate with Al Sadd to release him from his current contract, which lasts until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The program will not see him come soon, as instead, he would arrive during the next international break in November, before which the Catalans have 3 games to play against Alaves, Dynamo Kyiv, and Celta Vigo.
An interim coach is likely to hold the reins in those games.
