La Liga headline figures for the 2021/22 campaign are expected to be officially unveiled on Thursday when FC Barcelona receives a shocking € 250m reduction in their salary budget from the 2020/21 season.

Blaugrana endured a summer transfer window, losing captain and club player Leo Messi while managing free signings Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay in the final days of the window.

Gerard Pique also took a big salary to allow Barça to sign their new stars, while Antoine Griezmann was loaned out to Atletico Madrid with the aim of alleviating financial hardship.

The reason for those efforts was revealed by COPE after Spanish media reported that Barcelona’s salary was reduced by € 250m from last season based on the team’s salary in the midst of the coronavirus.

Barça has tried to introduce more first-team players and team players to the summer transfer window, selling Emerson Royal and Junior Firpo in the Premier League, while allowing players like Francisco Trincao, Miralem Pjanic, and Griezmann to go on loan.

They were also unable to sign Messi to their club, as they were unable to offer him a new contract at the end of his old contract in July 2021. After that the club made an astonishing number of cut players in a major attempt to balance the books.

Real Madrid have approved a high salary budget for 2021/22, which has recently increased from € 473m to € 739m, which means Los Blancos can withdraw money from newcomers and offer higher-paying salaries.

Below the pile lies Valencia, who could spend only 30 million euros on salary each year, which was also reduced from 93 million euros last year.
