The French giants PSG quickly emerged as the favorites to sign the Argentine international on a free transfer agent, despite suggestions that Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea are all interested.

Leo Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, and his lawyers are believed to be considering the final details of the offer tabled by PSG before heading to Paris to finalize the contract.

According to L’Equipe, Mauricio Pochettino’s team is preparing to offer The Argentine a first 2-year contract worth € 40m (£ 34m) a year after tax, and there will be an option to extend it for another 1 year.

The report also says PSG are open to Leo Messi leaving after 2 years, but they want to give the player a chance to stay until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Barcelona’s financial woes mean it is unlikely the club will sign a new deal with Messi, but Thursday’s announcement still sent more people to football.
