Barcelona are in dire financial straits and faces more than $ 1bn in debt, but Leo Messi is thought to have agreed on a new 5-year contract with the Catalan giants.

The Argentine Superstar Leo Messi will accept a big pay cut to stay on the books at the Camp Nou, but Barca are now under a lot of pressure to shed some of their hard-earned money.

According to The Athletic, Barca’s salary is expected to be reduced from £ 138m to £ 579m, meaning Ronald Koeman’s side will have to remove £ 441m from their wage bill as soon as possible.

The club have said goodbye to the likes of Junior Firpo, Carles Alena, and Jean-Clair Todibo but are reportedly working hard to sign players such as Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, and Samuel Umtiti, and the player will be offered Manchester United.

Coutinho is reportedly in talks to return to Lyon, but a recent report has suggested that Coutinho could stay at the club before the 2021-22 season.
