Leo Messi is currently training with his national team, which will host the tournament which starts on June 13 with a match in Buenos Aires and against Chile.

Barcelona could face a Champions League ban on UEFA, following their insistence on staying in the European Super League.

According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona are still waiting for the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to sign papers on a new contract, even if they are not competitors in the European elite competition next season.

Barca also believes the arrival of Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who is Messi’s best friend, could help persuade him to stay.

Messi was determined to leave the Camp Nou last summer after requesting a transfer but ended up staying behind after Barcelona demanded that his £ 625m release clause be met before being transferred.

The former star has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, a reunion with former manager Pep Guardiola, and Paris Saint-Germain to join former Barca club Neymar in the French capital.
