There has been growing hope that Messi will extend his stay in Catalonia over the summer, but as things stand, he will be able to leave as a free agent when his Barca contract expires next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke expects Haaland to stay with Dortmund for the 2021-22 season, but young Norway is expected to be in the middle of a mass bout this summer.

According to The Sun, Barcelona’s new president Joan Laporta wants to do everything in his power to get Haaland’s signature, and negotiations for Messi’s renewal will be back as La Blaugrana moves forward with action.

The report says Barca could spread the cost of nine trophies to Haaland in five years, although Blaugrana’s huge debt could still block the 20-year-old’s contract.

Barcelona are likely to be determined to eliminate as many as 14 players as they seek to raise money for Haaland, who has scored 39 goals in 39 games in all competitions this term.
