The six-time Ballon d’Or winner will expire his contract at the Camp Nou this summer, and his future beyond this is uncertain following another disappointing Barcelona campaign.

However, Barcelona was again penalized for exit the UEFA Champions League in 2020-21 and are now guaranteed to finish out of the top two in La Liga for the first time since 2007-08 following their seventh league defeat of the season at the weekend.

According to Manchester Evening News reports that Barcelona have offered Messi new terms for a much-reduced salary due to financial problems exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.

The 33-year-old has not given up on joining the team he represented in all of his careers, but reports say his representatives have begun reaching out to clubs to see what he likes.

Manchester City and PSG are understood to be leading the race for his signing due to the huge amount of money that could be taken to sign Leo Messi, without the transfer fee.

However, the report also says that Manchester United and Chelsea have also been contacted to find out if they would like to have the Argentine icon.

Man United are expected to make the move due to their transfer.
