Lionel Messi’s free-kick against Valencia on Sunday was the 50th time he wore a Barcelona shirt. He found the net against Jasper Cillessen in the second half in Mestalla.

In doing so, he has brought his total free to 56, with the club and the country. That’s the only three recorded in Diego Maradona Argentina’s record of 59 freekicks for the job.

Messi has already surpassed 45 of Manuel Pelegrina and Daniel Passarella of 43 in terms of population.

This weekend, Messi will face a team that came up with his first free-kick against Barcelona – Atletico Madrid.

The 32-year-old converted from his first free-kick goal football on October 4, 2008, when Barcelona beat Los Rojiblancos 6-1
