Shortly after Barcelona lifted the Copa del Rey, the issue of Leo Messi’s future became a major source of controversy.

The Blaugrana captain has lifted the trophy high in the air in Sevilla but everyone involved in the club is worried it could be his last, his contract expiring in the summer.

According to Marca, Barca President Joan Laporta said after the game he was confident Messi would stay.

Laporta said. I’m sure he wants to stay with us and we’ll do our best to keep him,”

Ronald Koeman echoed that sentiment.

“I don’t know what will happen [to his future],” said the Dutch coach.

“We hope this was not the last.

“Everyone wants to stay.”

Jordi Alba, who enjoys telepathic relations with Messi on stage, could not be reached for comment.

“I have said it so many times, Leo Messi is the one who can decide and will say it when he has to say it,” Alba said.

“Leo Messi is committed to this club, which is the club of his life.”
